Leah Hing Mural

The mural depicts a portrait of Leah Hing. Leah Hing was the first Chinese-American woman to earn her pilot’s license. Trained by Tex Rankin, an early aviation pioneer at Pearson Field in Vancouver, Washington, she received her pilot's license in 1934.

 

Later she became an instrument mechanic during World War II at a Portland air base. Hing was born in 1907 and died in 2001.

 

She is depicted in front of the Pearson Air Museum at Pearson Field, where her Fleet Source biplane is on permanent display.
